Revisit the Revolution

Lorenzo's America 250th Speaker Series

Thursday, June 4, 2026

5PM-7PM

Meier's Creek Farm Brewery

In commemoration of America’s 250th Anniversary Lorenzo State Historic Site is sponsoring a free Speaker Series featuring highly regarded historians, archaeologists, and authors specializing in the Revolutionary War era.

Lorenzo is thrilled to bring this distinguished group of scholars to Cazenovia. The goal of the series is to foster awareness and dialog around the people, places, and events that helped bring about a new nation 250 years ago and the continuing struggle to achieve the ideals of the American Revolution.

Please join us as we welcome Dr. Jane E. Calvert for her presentation “John Dickinson and the Creation of American Independence”. If Americans today know anything about John Dickinson, it is only that he refused vote on or sign the Declaration of Independence. Because of his decision—but without understanding it—historians have felt justified in excluding Dickinson from the story of the American Founding. This presentation will discuss how Dickinson’s work enabled those now-better known figures—John Adams, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington—to follow the path he forged for them.
